Investor & Partner Overview
The viewer simply watches. During a planned story moment, Lumis reads visible reaction locally in the browser and uses that response to guide the film toward the default path, Branch A, or Branch B.
Lumis is a browser-based branching film platform built around a controlled emotional reading window. Instead of presenting a menu or button choice, Lumis reads a short span of facial movement and reaction data, compares it against a calibrated neutral baseline, and decides whether the story should continue on the default path, Branch A, or Branch B.
A viewer watches. Lumis listens visually. The film responds.
Lumis is like a film that can quietly notice how a viewer reacts during one important moment. The viewer does not choose from buttons. They simply watch. If Lumis detects a strong enough reaction during the chosen window, the film can shift to a different ending, scene, or emotional direction.
Lumis is a privacy-conscious interactive film system that uses local camera-based reaction reading to let a movie branch based on how the viewer visibly responds during a specific story moment.
Think of it as a film that can feel the room. It does not need the audience to click anything. It watches for a response at the right moment and uses that response to decide where the story should go.
The main video and alternate branch videos. This is the actual cinematic content: default path, Branch A, and Branch B.
The browser camera, calibration, countdown, activation animation, reaction reading, and branch decision logic.
The admin page where timing, branch thresholds, and hosted video URLs are updated without rebuilding the viewer page.
The public viewer presents the branded cinematic interface and begins the main film experience.
The viewer enables the interactive experience. Lumis calibrates the viewer's neutral expression.
At the configured moment, Lumis counts down, activates, and reads reaction signals.
The system chooses default, Branch A, or Branch B based on confidence, margin, and coverage.
This is what happens from the viewer's point of view, step by step, without technical language.
The viewer opens the Lumis page and sees the branded film interface. The page looks like a cinematic system, not a generic video embed.
If the viewer wants the interactive version, they click to enable it. The browser asks for camera permission in the normal way.
Lumis asks the viewer to stay still briefly. This teaches the system what that viewer's relaxed face looks like.
Nothing dramatic happens until the story reaches the configured Lumis Window. The viewer can simply watch.
Three seconds before the reading window, Lumis shows the countdown: 3, 2, 1. The frame pulse signals that Lumis is waking up.
The “Lumis Activated” cue appears briefly, then disappears. During the window, Lumis reads reaction without covering the scene.
At the end of the window, Lumis checks whether the reaction was strong and clear enough to branch.
The film either stays on the default path or shifts to Branch A or Branch B at the exact branch time.
The public viewer is the audience-facing Lumis experience. It handles playback, camera consent, neutral calibration, countdown activation, local reaction analysis, and final branch playback.
| Function | Viewer Behavior |
|---|---|
| Camera Consent | The viewer must enable the interactive layer before Lumis reads anything. |
| Calibration | The viewer's own neutral expression becomes the reference point. |
| Activation | The countdown appears before the reading window, followed by a short Lumis Activated signal. |
| Branching | The film switches paths only after enough signal confidence is reached. |
The admin page is the operational control panel. It does not run camera, face mesh, emotion reading, or video playback. It only changes the live settings the public viewer reads.
| Control | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Analyze From / Until | Defines when Lumis reads the viewer's reaction. |
| Branch At | Defines when the film switches path. |
| Thresholds | Controls evidence, margin, and tracking coverage requirements. |
| Video URLs | Defines main video, Branch A, and Branch B. |
The Lumis Window is the section of the film where viewer reaction matters. The countdown begins before the window, the activation message appears briefly, and then Lumis reads silently until the window closes.
Main film begins.
Countdown begins: 3, 2, 1.
Lumis Activated appears briefly. Reading begins.
Reaction collection ends.
The film continues default or shifts to Branch A/B.
The Lumis Window lets the filmmaker choose the exact emotional moment that matters. Lumis is not reading the viewer for the entire film. It is focused on a deliberately chosen point in the story, which makes the branching feel intentional instead of random.
The browser processes the camera stream locally. No camera footage needs to be uploaded or stored.
Facial movement is interpreted relative to the viewer's own neutral baseline, reducing false positives.
Lumis accumulates reaction evidence over the full window instead of reacting to a single frame.
Lumis does not “read minds.” It reads visible movement signals from the face and turns those signals into a reaction profile. That distinction matters for investors, partners, and privacy review.
Tracks visible positive response or soft engagement when it rises above the viewer's neutral baseline.
Looks for lower-energy reaction signals such as facial tension, lowered expression, or concern-like patterns.
Uses cues like widened eyes, jaw movement, and surprise-like model signals during the window.
Looks for stronger compressed reactions that may indicate discomfort, focus, anger, or emotional pressure.
Lumis is watching for visible changes from the viewer's normal face. It is not trying to diagnose emotion. It is asking: “Did this moment produce a clear enough visible reaction to justify shifting the story?”
Adaptive learning is the educational idea behind where Lumis can grow: the system becomes more useful when it learns from context instead of treating every viewer, every face, and every story moment the exact same way.
In the current prototype, Lumis begins by calibrating the viewer's neutral expression. This means the system does not assume every person's relaxed face looks the same.
The admin defines the exact Lumis Window. That tells the system which story moment matters, instead of asking it to interpret the entire film equally.
Lumis only branches when there is enough usable signal. If the reaction is weak, unclear, or poorly tracked, the default path remains the safest choice.
Adaptive learning means Lumis gets smarter about context. It starts by learning what “neutral” looks like for the person watching. Future versions can expand that idea by learning which reaction patterns create the best story outcomes across many viewings, without needing to store camera footage.
Lumis is not a one-emotion-equals-one-branch system. The decision is based on accumulated signal strength, minimum evidence, winning margin, and face coverage.
Used when signal strength, coverage, or margin is not strong enough.
Triggered when the Branch A reaction profile clearly wins.
Triggered when the Branch B reaction profile clearly wins.
The default path is not a failure state. It is the safety path. Lumis should only branch when the reaction data is strong enough, clear enough, and reliable enough. That makes the experience feel intentional instead of noisy.
Hosts public viewer, admin page, video files, font, and Lumis logo assets.
The admin saves timing, thresholds, and video URLs to a shared configuration endpoint.
The viewer page reads config, plays the film, runs local camera processing, and branches playback.
The project is split into a few simple pieces: the videos live online, the admin page changes the settings, and the public viewer page uses those settings to decide how the film behaves.
| Principle | Implementation |
|---|---|
| Consent First | The viewer actively enables the interactive layer. |
| Local Processing | Camera analysis happens in the browser. |
| No Uploaded Footage | Camera footage is not sent to the server. |
| Default Fallback | If camera or tracking fails, the film can continue default. |
The camera is used as an interaction sensor, not as a recording system. That makes Lumis easier to explain to viewers and cleaner to position for public-facing experiences.
The admin page turns Lumis from a one-off prototype into a repeatable system. A filmmaker or operator can change the interaction timing, sensitivity, and video paths without rewriting the public viewer page.
| Admin Setting | Layman's Explanation | Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|
| Analyze From | The moment Lumis starts paying attention. | Lets the filmmaker pick the emotionally important story beat. |
| Analyze Until | The moment Lumis stops paying attention. | Prevents unrelated reactions from affecting the outcome. |
| Branch At | The exact second the video can change paths. | Keeps the branch edit timed cleanly to the film. |
| Minimum Branch Score | How strong the reaction must be. | Prevents weak expressions from causing random branches. |
| Winning Margin | How clearly one branch must beat the other. | Prevents ties or ambiguous reactions from forcing a choice. |
| Face Coverage | How much reliable face data is required. | Protects against bad lighting, partial faces, or tracking loss. |
Traditional branching video asks the viewer to stop watching and make an explicit choice. Lumis keeps the experience cinematic. The interaction is embedded inside the viewing moment itself, allowing the story to feel responsive without becoming a game menu.
| Traditional Branching | Lumis |
|---|---|
| Viewer clicks a choice. | Viewer watches naturally. |
| Interaction interrupts the film. | Interaction is built into the film language. |
| Choice is explicit and mechanical. | Response is interpreted and cinematic. |
| Same interface for every project. | Admin can tune each film's Lumis Window. |
Lumis creates a story moment people can describe: “the film reacted to me.”
The same structure can support new films, campaigns, festival versions, or installations.
The visual system can be extended while preserving the underlying interaction engine.
Lumis can be positioned as an interactive cinema technology, an experiential marketing tool, or a privacy-conscious audience-response platform. The current three-path prototype is intentionally focused, but the system can expand into more complex branch trees later.
We are not just showing a short film online. We are demonstrating a format: emotionally responsive cinema in the browser.
Short films, features, and serialized stories that adapt to emotional reaction.
Campaigns where audience emotion changes the creative path or reveal.
Gallery, festival, and live event experiences with responsive cinematic playback.
The experience can continue on the default path. The system does not break if someone opts out.
Face coverage rules prevent unreliable data from forcing a branch.
Minimum evidence rules keep subtle or unclear reactions on the default path.
Winning margin rules prevent near-ties from creating random outcomes.
| Component | Status |
